FAQs

  • How long does therapy last?

The duration of therapy varies depending on the severity of the problem, skill practice outside of therapy sessions, and consistency of attendance. The goal is to help children and families learn how to help themselves and no longer need therapy. Many clients will benefit from 12-20 therapy sessions scheduled for 50 minutes each week. Sustainable change takes time - you can do it!

  • Will I be blamed for my child's problems?

This is a VERY common concern for parents and guardians! What we know about childhood problems is that they are often the result of both biological (nature: genes) and environmental (nurture: parents, school, friends) influences. When you bring your child to therapy, know that you have taken the most difficult step in acknowledging you need help! I work with you to address your concerns because parents are incredibly important to the success of therapy!

  • Will you tell me everything my child says in therapy?

Depending on the age of your child and type of service parents may be more or less involved in therapy. That is, parents are usually more involved with younger children (e.g., family therapy) and less involved with older children and teenagers (e.g., individual therapy). I discuss a child’s confidentiality at the start of therapy to ensure everyone is on the same page. Of course, parents will always be informed if there are any concerns about a child/teen’s safety or engagement in risky behaviors.

  • How are clinical psychologists different from other mental health providers?

Licensed clinical psychologists have completed a doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD), passed a national exam, been deemed as meeting qualifications by the state psychology board, and engaged in continuing education activities. Additionally, PhD clinical psychology training programs require students to have solid research training to not only publish studies but to understand and apply treatments and assessments supported by research. This means that you can trust clinical psychologists to provide treatment techniques that have strong scientific foundations and are shown to be effective.

  • Do you accept insurance?

Although I do not bill insurance directly, I am able to provide all clients with a superbill describing the services provided for clients to submit to their insurance provider for possible reimbursement. Payment is due at the time of service in the form of cash, check, or debit/credit card.

  • What is a superbill?

A superbill is a document that is used to request reimbursement for medical services from insurance providers. The superbill includes detailed information about the services that were provided (e.g., date of service, provider’s name and information, diagnosis code, procedure code).

  • Are you considered an out-of-network provider?

Yes, I am considered an out-of-network (OON) provider. You should contact your insurance provider to understand your OON benefits. Specifically, I would recommend that you ask about (1) the amount of your deductible, (2) what percentage of behavioral health services they will reimburse for OON providers (typically 20-80%), and (3) any limits on the number of visits per calendar year. I will provide you with a monthly superbill for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement for the services provided at Eureka Psychology, LLC.

  • What CPT codes should I ask my insurance provider about?

The most common services provided at Eureka Psychology, LLC are: 90791 (psychiatric diagnostic interview), 90837 (individual psychotherapy, 60 minutes), 90847 (family psychotherapy with patient present), and 90846 (family psychotherapy without patient present). For psychological testing, the relevant codes are 96130, 96131, 96136, and 96137. Some insurance providers may require pre-authorization for testing, so please check with your insurance provider before scheduling your testing appointments.

  • Do you prescribe medication?

I do not prescribe medication. I work closely with your child’s doctor to monitor any side effects and can help with referrals to doctors for medication needs.
